More Progress This Week – Concrete Pour

It didn’t take long for the Pirates to complete the concrete slab for the restroom building.  It was just last week that they started on the project.  The finished product looks great.

Next on the list is the masonry restroom and then the roof for the restroom.

There is a home game against Ashland this weekend (October 6) then two away games which will allow time to work on the restroom.  The Pirates finish the regular season at home against Mazama on October 27th.

Raise the Roof Project Very Near Goalline

Roughed in plumbing
Ticket Booth

A lot of progress was made the week of September 11th. Rough-in plumbing was completed. Pouring concrete is soon to follow. The ticket booth is almost done and all of the viewing boxes now have signs to direct fans to their proper spots.

Once again, we give a big Thank You to all cash donors, in-kind donors, and the School District for their support of the Raise the Roof project.

Construction Update: Ticket and Concession booths on the way

Permits have been issued by the City of Coos Bay for more work at Susick Stadium.  The south stands and surrounding area should be much improved for the 2023 football season.

The Advanced Construction Class at Marshfield is currently building the south ticket booth for Susick Stadium. In the fall the class will build a concession stand for the south stands.

Wes Plummer of Tri-County Plumbing will start the plumbing rough-in for the restrooms and concession stand in the near future. After the rough-in plumbing is complete, a concrete pour will occur for all of the back of the south stands.

Work will start soon on the Quarterdeck Area. BNT Promotional Products (Bill Burgher ) is doing the work. We hope to see these items ready for next fall.

Thank you, Wes, Bill, and Jesse Ainsworth and his Advanced Construction Class for your hard work and contributions.  And thank you to everyone who has supported the Raise the Roof project.

Great article about Raise the Roof contributors

Here’s a link to a wonderful article about many of the Raise the Roof contributors.  The article was written by John Gunther of The World newspaper.  We are almost to the finish line, but can always use more donations to help complete the project.  Go to this donation page to find out how to contribute.

Raise the Roof Fundraising Party – August 20

We’re getting very close to completing the project.  There are just three components left 1) ADA accessibility, 2) restrooms, and 3) concession stands complete with disaster relief enhancements.  Now for the final push.

We kicked off our campaign several years ago with a party at Lou and Butch’s Boathouse in Charleston.  It was an absolute blast in a great setting.  We are inviting all those who have contributed and anyone who has yet to contribute to attend a Fundraising Party on August 20th, once again at Lou and Butch’s Boathouse featuring their FAMOUS seafood extravaganza and more.  There is also a stadium tour at 11:00 am.  If you haven’t been to the stadium in years, you’ll want to see the improvements.

By the way, Lou and Butch are Lou Leberti and Butch Shields, two very, very generous Pirates from the class of ’65.  The pair, along with other classmates, have donated more than $30,000 in cash in addition to substantial in-kind donations.

If you have already donated, you should have received an invitation in the mail with a return postcard to RSVP.  If you have yet to donate and want to attend, or have donated and did not receive an invitation in the mail, please email Nancy Tedder at nla8ted4@gmail.com with your RSVP by August 1st.

Below is an invitation to the party.  The download button is below the pdf insert.

Pirates win State Championship – 49-34

The Pirates led 42-27 at halftime against the Marist Spartans before a heavy fog settled in at Cottage Grove High School during the break.  The fog slowed down Marshfield’s passing game which had over 300 yard going into halftime.  The fog got thicker and thicker as the second half progressed and each team was only able to muster one touchdown the rest of the game.

For the game, Marshfield had 608 total yards, a record for an eleven man football championship game at any level.  Senior QB Dominic Montiel was 28 for 44, good for 439 yards and 5 touchdowns.  DJ Daugherty had ten catches for 151 yards and one touchdown and Mason Pederson had nine receptions for 203 yards and three touchdowns.

The 2021 state title is the 5th for the Pirates since an organized playoff was set up in 1940. Marshfield has finished 2nd in state four times.  Look at these scores!!!! 42.5 points a game.  Dominant!

Reminder: We are close to completing our Raise the Roof project.  We need to complete the ADA ramps and accessibility.

League Championship on line Friday in final regular season game – Viewing Room Open House

Our Pirates (8-0) host the Marist Spartans (7-1) in a game to decide the league champion this Friday, October 29 at 7PM.  Both teams are undefeated in league play going into their final game of the regular season.

The Pirates are averaging 47 point per game on offense while Marist averages 45 points per game.  Could be a shoot out.  Marshfield is giving up 11  points per game while Marist is yielding 15 points per game. Could be a low scoring game. Attend the game and find out.

John Lemmons is the Pirate head coach and led the Pirates to the finals in 2017.  Marist is coached by Frank Geske.  Geske has a state title with Tigard (old 4A) and Marist (modern 4A) and two runner up years with Marist at the 5A level.

If you’re in town, drop by the stadium between 4:00 and 5:30 for an open house tour of the viewing boxes.  All Pirates and Pirate supporters are welcome.  There are still some final touches to be completed, but a few of the viewing rooms will be able to be used for the game by some of our most generous donors.

Thanks for all of your support.  You can take a great deal of pride in knowing that you helped us finally put a new roof over the south grandstands, install new viewing rooms and perhaps most importantly make the stadium ADA accessible.

Class Challenge Update – Getting near the goal line

It’s been a great year so far for Pirates, both on the field and for the new roof project.  Our #1 ranked Pirates beat North Bend 55-6 last weekend and are 4-0 for the season. They have some tough games coming up, including North Eugene and #2 ranked Marist.  If you’re in town on October 29th, come watch the Marist game and check out how close the Raise the Roof project is to completion.  There will be an Open House from 4:00 – 5:30 PM.

Your response to our final phase of fundraising has been terrific.  Our appeal for funding the final stages, including ADA accessibility, started in April.   We’ve received over $33,000 in cash donations and also received healthy in-kind donations of material and labor.

The number of classes donating over $2,500 jumped from 10 classes to 12 since our last update.  Four classes are within $500 of reaching the Purple level.  The class of ’53 is only $100 away.  If you can help push your class to the next level of recognition, please do.  Recognition plaques at the stadium begin at the $100 level – see here for details.

10 Classes have given over $2,500 in Class Challenge

Today’s update to the class challenge brings to ten the number of classes giving over $2,500.  The newest addition is the class of 1968.  Classes giving over $2,500 will have plaques placed in the stadium.

We still need more donations to complete our ADA ramps and restrooms.  Some challenges:  The class of 1967 needs a couple of people to give a combined total of $150 to reach the Gold plaque level.  The class of 1953 needs just $100 to reach the Purple plaque level.  And it sure would be nice to see the first contributions from the classes of 1979, 1947,1948 and 1949.

Thanks for all of your help and support.  We are less than $40 short of $100,000 in cash donations.  That’s fantastic.  If you can help, please join those who have been so generous with their money, time and materials.  Directions on how to donate can be found here – DONATE .
